Each person I work with is an individual. I strive to figure out the puzzle in each person that is contributing to their symptoms. My goal is to help each body have better alignment and movement and thus fewer symptoms. I work with the body to increase or improve active and passive range of motion, craniosacral movement, visceral movement, myofascial movement, as well as better blood and lymphatic flow.
I use my hands to feel or listen to where tensions are in the body and I gently work with the body to release those tensions. These tensions I find could originate from any physical or emotional trauma experienced over the course of your life including birth trauma, how you were positioned in utero, or that fall or car accident that happened years ago, as well as repetitive stress, postural habits, etc.
Our bodies have a great ability to compensate for traumas and stresses. When our body can no longer compensate, that is when we have symptoms. One of my goals is to help reduce the number of things you have to compensate for and thus reduce or improve your symptoms.
The majority of the time, you will be fully dressed during your treatment. I will access your alignment and tension patterns both standing and laying down and will use that information to decide where to work first. Sometimes, for example, I will work on your foot when you complain of shoulder pain. Pain can be the biggest liar and where you experience pain may not be where it is coming from. I do my best to treat you holistically and to help your body release any tensions that could be contributing to that shoulder pain, even if it is from your foot, knee, pelvis, head, liver, kidney, bladder, etc.
I typically work with a very gentle touch. I try to match the force I use with my hands to how your body is responding to that force, so there are times that I use quite a bit of force and times where I use almost no force at all. It depends on the feedback I get from your body through my hands. I do not use sudden and forceful movements. I rarely use lotions or oils or focus on massaging a particular muscle or muscle group.
Some people feel a lot of change during treatment. Others don't feel like I'm actually doing anything but then notice changes when they get up or over the next couple days.
It is important to find the right match when you are looking for a massage therapist. That is part of why there are so many of us out there - a good thing. I work with people of all ages from newborns to eigty or ninety year olds. I tend to work best with people who prefer a gentle and sensitive touch and who are looking to work on a particular issue or issues such as chronic pain, injuries after the acute phase, pelvic pain from endometriosis or scar tissue, headaches, migraines, etc. That said, really anybody can benefit!
I am also passionate about working with moms (not pregnant yet, pregnant, postpartum) and newborns: helping relieve congestion in the pelvis to potentially help achieve pregnancy, helping with aches and pains experienced during pregnancy, helping the alignment of the pelvis in hopes to achieve the ideal birth outcome, helping with latch and nursing and helping baby recover from any birth trauma he or she may have experienced, helping mom recover from any birth trauma or scar tissue from an epidural or Caesarian section, helping Moms body find its center of gravity again, helping with prolapse and/or diastasis recti (when the abdominal muscles split) or urinary incontinence, etc.
